the fall is for mushrooms...

as the rain and mild temperatures make them grow, grow, grow... and since the fall is now in full swing, yummy wild fungi are everywhere!

i grew up mushroom picking with my grannie Stasia. we'd pick baskets of mushrooms together and then saute them with butter and eat them with crusty rye bread. those memories are still pretty vivid but my mushroom-identification memory has faded a bit, so these days i opt to pick my wild mushrooms at the local market... like these lovely chantrelles that i got from a shop on commercial drive last weekend. sauteed with a little olive oil, leaks, rosemary and sea salt, they were absolutely delicious over baked spaghetti squash. the perfect fall meal - my babcia would have been proud!
